Mr Musa, the owner of Etoile Limousines in Paris, rented the car to Mohamed al Fayed, the Harrod and Paris Ritz owner and Dodi's father.

Mr Musa said: "It is an exceptional wreck - like the one James Dean died in. We were told it was worth at least £1 million. It belongs to us. At first I was thinking it should have been given to Mohamed al Fayed because his son, Dodi, died in it.

"Then I thought maybe it should be put in a museum. Now I want to sell it. We've been told a lot of people would pay a fortune for the wreck. We have never had any firm inquiries about it, but people have spoken to me about how much it could be worth."
